Cristie VA 5.3.1 What’s New
Here’s an update on what’s new for the Cristie Virtual Appliance. The 5.3.1 release includes lots of new functionality including Continuous Recovery Assurance for Rubrik VM snapshots.
Automated system recovery for multiple systems (150+) with seamless scalability as new applications are added.
With vastly improved system recovery times, service outage times are kept to a minimum ensuring that customer SLAs can not just be met but exceeded.
Protection can be scheduled for all systems without any impact on service operations.
Easy setup and teardown of system recovery test environments are possible at any time reducing administrative overhead.
System recovery time for the entire server estate reduced to less than one hour from 2hr+ using the previous system recovery workflow.
SoftBank Mobile is a leading Japanese telecommunications and Internet corporation company, with various operations including broadband, fixed-line telecommunications, e-commerce and Internet.
Customer service is very important to SoftBank Mobile and the company offer 24 x 365 support with clear service level agreements. However, its legacy manual backup operations were time-consuming, operated through scripts and standard system tools such as ftp and
tar. SoftBank Mobile needed a machine backup and recovery solution that would not only meet but exceed existing SLAs.
After a competitive tender process, SoftBank Mobile purchased CBMR from Cristie Software and began to enjoy immediate benefits. CBMR supports online backup without affecting SoftBank Mobile’s running applications and operations. Seiichi Koike, Deputy Manager, SoftBank mobile says, “We use CBMR for all of our scheduled server maintenance, and for updates to applications and system configurations. With around 150 servers on our network service system, it is important that our backup solution now gives us stability and continuity.”
The measured time for recovery (including OS, applications and data) using CBMR is now under an hour – compared with at least two hours previously. Koike says, “Our operations team can now execute the maintenance of our servers with confidence, as CBMR gives them a quick and easy recovery process should any server fail”.

Cleanroom recovery is becoming essential in the fight against ransomware. By restoring systems in an isolated environment, organizations can validate integrity, eliminate hidden threats, and prevent reinfection. This approach ensures secure, reliable recovery of infrastructure, helping businesses minimise downtime and strengthen cyber resilience after sophisticated cyberattacks.

Modern ransomware targets entire infrastructures, not just data. Traditional backups often fail because they don’t restore operating systems or configurations. This guide explores building a cyber-resilient strategy using automated system recovery and cleanroom environments to bridge the gap between backup and full operational restoration, ensuring rapid recovery after a sophisticated attack.

When cyberattacks cripple critical infrastructure, organizations must rebuild systems quickly and securely. Bare metal recovery enables complete physical system recovery by restoring operating systems, applications, and data from trusted backups. Automated recovery solutions accelerate ransomware system recovery, reduce downtime, and help organizations restore operations rapidly after major cyber incidents worldwide.
