Cristie VA 5.3.1 What’s New
Here’s an update on what’s new for the Cristie Virtual Appliance. The 5.3.1 release includes lots of new functionality including Continuous Recovery Assurance for Rubrik VM snapshots.
CoBMR is developed by Cristie Software in close partnership with Cohesity for full integration with Cohesity DataProtect. Licensing is available in the Cohesity price book with support provided through Cohesity OneCall. CoBMR streamlines the bare metal recovery (BMR) process for faster, more efficient system recovery.Â
Automatically verify the recoverability of complete systems after each successful Cohesity DataProtect backup.
Verify system recovery in a dedicated clean room environment isolated from production systems and networks.
Integrated KVM provides recovery verification for both Windows and Linux systems without additional hardware.
Cristie CoBMR and CBMR can automate the recovery of physical systems at scale for Cohesity DataProtect and Veritas NetBackup users respectively.
Physical system recovery can be performed to similar or dissimilar hardware with automatic driver insertion. Optional pre and -post boot scripts can be run to orchestrate additional disaster recovery processes.
Physical systems can also be recovered to virtual and cloud based systems with automated or customized resource provisioning. Cristie CoBMR for Cohesity and standalone CBMR can recover systems in any direction between physical, virtual and cloud targets.
Continuous Recovery Assurance automatically performs a full system recovery test every time a new Cohesity DataProtect backup is completed for a protected system. The recovery is executed in a secure, isolated clean room environment on the Cristie Virtual Appliance (VA)—ensuring zero impact on production systems.
This process validates the integrity of the backup and confirms that the operating system can successfully boot and operate as expected, giving Cohesity users continuous proof that their recovery strategy will work when it matters most.
The Cohesity–Veritas merger marks a powerful new chapter in data protection. But for enterprises with complex, distributed infrastructures, one challenge remains critical: automated, scalable bare metal recovery.
By integrating Cristie CoBMR for Cohesity and Cristie CBMR for Veritas, organizations can:
Automate large-scale system recovery across hybrid and multi-cloud environments
Minimize downtime with fast, consistent recovery processes
Ensure true business continuity, even in the face of major outages or ransomware attacks
Together, Cristie and Cohesity–Veritas empower enterprises to go beyond backup—delivering recovery you can trust, at scale.

Cleanroom recovery is becoming essential in the fight against ransomware. By restoring systems in an isolated environment, organizations can validate integrity, eliminate hidden threats, and prevent reinfection. This approach ensures secure, reliable recovery of infrastructure, helping businesses minimise downtime and strengthen cyber resilience after sophisticated cyberattacks.

Modern ransomware targets entire infrastructures, not just data. Traditional backups often fail because they don’t restore operating systems or configurations. This guide explores building a cyber-resilient strategy using automated system recovery and cleanroom environments to bridge the gap between backup and full operational restoration, ensuring rapid recovery after a sophisticated attack.

When cyberattacks cripple critical infrastructure, organizations must rebuild systems quickly and securely. Bare metal recovery enables complete physical system recovery by restoring operating systems, applications, and data from trusted backups. Automated recovery solutions accelerate ransomware system recovery, reduce downtime, and help organizations restore operations rapidly after major cyber incidents worldwide.
