What is System Recovery and Why Is It Important?

If your servers fail, you’ll need to recover your lost operating systems and applications as well as your data. Read here why system recovery is such an important part of your business planning, and how Cristie software can help keep your systems protected.

What would you do if your servers were destroyed – from a hacker attack, ransomware, or system failure?

Hopefully, you’d already have a Disaster Recovery plan in place, but if not, any system downtime could cause mayhem in your business – from production time lost and reduced revenue to damage to your business’s reputation. And the longer your servers are down, the bigger the impact to your business.

Read here why system recovery is such an important part of your business planning, and how Cristie software can help keep your systems protected.

Dealing with System Failure

If your servers fail, we’re not just talking about loss of data – you’ll also need to think about recovering your lost operating systems and applications too.

Take your company database for example. It’s one thing recovering the data from it, but what about the database application needed to use that data and in turn the operating system (OS) needed to run that application?

Rebuilding your systems manually is certainly possible, but it’s a time-consuming process. On top of which, you’ll need to know the exact version of the application that was used at the time of the backup, what operating system version this is compatible with and also if any security patches were installed over the base OS and application.

Cristie System Recovery

System recovery (also known as Bare Machine Recovery (BMR) or Bare Metal Restore), protects the operating systems, applications and configurations of your systems.

Cristie BMR software can recover an exact copy of your production system in as little as ten minutes. It recovers your entire system in one process instead of handling each component – such as the operating system and the applications – individually. This means that human involvement in the process (and the potential for human error!) is reduced.

Benefits of using our System Recovery software

We include automation in our software, enabling scheduled recovery testing to check for any potential issues and resolving them in advance. Our DR Orchestration helps to automate the disaster recovery process, and machine learning based Log Analysis pinpoints any failed recovery jobs to offer self-healing recoveries.

These features allow you to run fully automated, regular DR tests into isolated environments or to the cloud with full email reporting for any audit requirements.

Plus, we can recover to and from physical, virtual and cloud environments with full integrations to vSphere, Hyper-V, Azure, Azure Stack, AWS and Oracle Cloud. We can also recover in to any other target using our dissimilar hardware technology.

Standalone or full integration

We provide system recovery either as a complete standalone solution or with full integration with some of the leading Data Protection vendors, such as IBM, Dell and Cohesity.

Having an integrated solution means you get a combination of system recovery from a dedicated system recovery vendor – us! – and data protection from a dedicated data protection vendor.

It also means that there’s only one backup process for you to manage, and you’ll get full system recovery to any point in time available from your IBM, Dell or Cohesity backup.

What’s more, you can recover your data into almost any target environment, whether that’s physical, virtual or directly in to the Cloud.

But you don’t have to integrate with one of those solutions; our system recovery capabilities are also available as a completely standalone product that doesn’t require any third-party software or integrations.
